Alakesh Ghosh
Alakesh Ghosh is a watercolourist known for riverine landscapes and scenes of Old Dhaka, observed closely and painted with a light hand.
Biography
Born in 1950, Ghosh graduated in 1972 from the Government Institute of Arts in Dhaka — now the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka — and belongs to the generation that came of age immediately after the Liberation War.
He works in several media but is identified above all with watercolour. Rivers, moored boats, market crowds, village settlements, and the older quarters of Dhaka recur throughout the work, handled with an economy that leaves room for weather and light.
His exhibitions include watercolour projects on the Sundarbans and Bandarban organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and a solo presentation of watercolours at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhaka.
