'Alchemy of Light': Gallery Cosmos hosts workshop by Juton Chandra Roy
Alchemy of Light, a three-day workshop in cyanotype and gum bichromate led by Juton Chandra Roy, ran at Cosmos Atelier71 from 27 to 29 June 2025.
Gallery Cosmos, the artistic wing of the Cosmos Foundation, hosted Alchemy of Light at Cosmos Atelier71, Cosmos Centre, Malibagh, from 27 to 29 June 2025, daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
The workshop was led by Juton Chandra Roy, a lecturer in the Department of Printmaking at the University of Dhaka, and introduced ten Bangladeshi artists to two nineteenth-century photographic processes: cyanotype, with its characteristic blue, and gum bichromate, which builds an image from pigment, gum arabic, and dichromate.
The aim was to put alternative photographic printmaking within reach of emerging artists outside an academic setting. Gallery Cosmos director Tehmina Enayet and artistic director Sourav Chowdhury were among those at the opening.
